Our class created these basic rules to help us achieve our academic goals and objectives. They are aligned with our school's expectations: safe, respectful, and responsible. They encourage the students to treat other people the way they want to be treated.  When the rules are followed, everyone wins.

Our school has a very strong Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS) program. PBIS is a program that concentrates on rewarding good behavior and reinforcing positive traits like respect. Our students are given "Gator Bucks" when an adult sees them displaying our school's expectations. Children save their bucks to buy things at the store at the end of the 9-weeks.

Conduct is a necessary part of the classroom. I try to be very consistent when lowering a student's conduct grade. Our school requires that the conduct sheet be sent home on a daily basis. Please check your student's conduct folder every night and sign it. This is our conduct grading scale:

Conduct Grades
A Every child starts out with an A in conduct every morning.
B Five minutes of recess detention.
C The student receives ten minutes of recess detention.
D Sits out for the entire recess. The student receives an assignment to complete during detention.
F Phone call home or Office Referral
*Consistent misbehavior will be handled by a parent conference or by an office referral if necessary.

Disrespect Policy

Occasionally, we experience problems with disrespect. As a class, we do lessons throughout the year on respecting adults and peers. We hope this character education will teach the students important life skills.

After these lessons if a student is disrespectful, he/she will write the paragraph below for every instance. He/she will stay in from recess to do the assigned work. If he/she doesn't finish during that time, the student will complete the assignment at home and bring it in the next school day.

CR - "Conflict Resolution"

CR is an in class way of dealing with on-going conflicts between students. Once it is determined that two children are having constant disagreements, they are moved to another part of the classroom (just for that day).

During the day, they

  • work with each other, and only each other.

  • have lunch together.

  • stay in from recess and discuss the problem. Then they write an apology letter to each other. CR Apology Letter

I want all of my students to be civil and work well together. It is my hope that if the students spend time together, they will find something they like about each other and be able to get along.

CR Parent Notification Letter

*Students are only eligible for CR if the conflict is not a bullying situation.

Rewards

Students will play the Claw for several reasons. Some of these reasons are when he/she receives an A in conduct, for participation in class, or following rules and procedures.

Team Reward System

Team Celebrations are given when each team earns 50 points. Team Celebrations consist of students bringing drinks and snacks from home and celebrating with their team.

The teams receive points for good behavior, participation, and doing homework.
