Anything with nuts are not allowed since some of our children are allergic to nut products. Please do not send party invitations to school unless the entire class is invited. We appreciate your understanding.

How much homework will I have? Every evening you will be expected to read 20 minutes in "Just Right" books. You will also have Spelling, Math and Journal every night. You will be given time during class to do most of your homework. So if you use your time wisely, you won't have much homework at night.
How will my child be evaluated? The evaluation tools are selected on the basis of the appropriateness for the concept that is taught. Teacher observation, oral reports, projects or reports, rubrics, conferences with students, open- ended question responses, class participation, and performance are examples of evaluation tools that may be used. Reading and Mathematics assessments will be given at the end of each unit of study. Re-teaching and re-testing strategies are used to remediate and strengthen weaknesses.
Will you have book orders each month? Books are very enjoyable in our classroom! Almost everything we do centers around reading wonderful literature! And there's no better way to build up both our classroom and your home libraries than with school book clubs! During the year we will use the Scholastic Book Clubs, which offer wonderful, current literature appropriate for the fifth grade reader! GREAT NEWS! You have 2 CHOICES to place your orders each month from Scholastic Books.

#1 Normally each month I will send home one book order form. The book clubs have different names but there is one parent company Scholastic Books. Please make your checks payable to Scholastic Books. There is no need to write different checks for different clubs, they all go together so one check will work great. OR #2 Use the information below to access the Scholastic Book Clubs website. Browse the titles with your child and place your order with your credit card. Your order will come to me and your credit card payment goes directly to Scholastics SECURE server. No need to send any money into school.
